Look closely at these photographs. The skiers in the Skier Series (and Other Athlete Series) are miniature antique toys from the 1930's and 40's photographed high in the mountains at premier ski resorts. These tiny figures draw you in, evoke a nostalgic feeling for the dawn of skiing but are presented in a vibrant, modern, relevant context. That mix of old and new creates a great visual addition to any home or mountain commercial space. They showcase the beauty of mountain landscapes with a wink of whimsy designed to draw the viewer in and surprise and delight.
All images are taken on site and not photoshopped to appear on location.
Most recently, I added some Mixed Media work to the website. These pieces were created in response to the imagined world of skiing safely during the global pandemic. Each skier or group of skiers is protected by its own plexiglass box. Protected by the bubble, each playful images inspire reflection on what does it meant to be a skier in these times? All images used in these one of a kind pieces are from the Skier Series.
Also, new this year is the Cabin Fever Series which launched July 2020. This new series was inspired by designs from rugs, blankets and quilts often seen in mountain homes, is made up of hundreds of Hooey Mountain images from my original Skier Series as well as images of my Other Toy Athlete Series. Brought together, they are transformed to a new art form. These designs are customizable and scale great for large space. They pair well with any of the toy skier or other athlete photographs.
There are so many more images and some works of art that are not yet uploaded to this site. I add more images throughout a year, so check back regularly. For many of the vertical shots, there is a horizontal versions and vice versa. Don't hesitate to ask if you need a different orientation of an image or a re looking for something specific. I chose a variety that I thought suited many different styles. If you follow @hooeymountain on Instagram (or Facebook) you'll be treated to many more images. If you see something you like on Instagram not offered here, contact me and let me know how I can help you.
Finally, a few people have asked where each of the skier photos were shot. I have visited many of your home mountains, but sometimes the weather does not cooperate for the days that we are there and we would not want you to feel left out of the fun. So think of the skiers as photographed where ever you want them to be or that they simply exist in your mind on Hooey Mountain. We hope the photos conjures in you the broad feeling of happiness you associate with skiing without tying into a single experience or place.
